Lesson Plan 1

Class duration: 40 minutes

  • Lesson objectives: The students will learn-
  • to greet in English
  • to introduce themselves in English

The teacher enters the classroom and says “good morning” to students. The teacher encourages students to say “good morning” in return.

The teacher then introduces himself or herself by saying his or her name “my name is…”. The teacher then writes it down on the board. Next the teacher selects a student and asks him or her, “what is your name?” The teacher prompts the student to answer similarly. Once the student succeeds, the teacher tells all the students to introduce themselves one by one in a similar fashion.

Next the teacher selects a student and tells him or her to come in front of the class. The teacher says to the student, “Hi! My name is…. What is your name?” The teacher prompts the student to say his/her name. Then the teacher asks, “How are you (student’s name)?” The teacher prompts the student to say, “I am fine. How are you Mr. or Ms (teacher’s name)”. Once the dialogue exchange is done, the teacher tells the student to go back to his/her seat.

Next the teacher tells the whole class to turn to their peers sitting next to them and greet them in the same way the teacher has modelled. The teacher moves from pair to pair and monitors. The teacher will facilitate wherever needed.

The teacher tells the students to practice introducing themselves at home, as they will be asked to do so in the next class. The teacher then ends the class.

Lesson Plan 2

Class duration: 40 minutes

  • Lesson objectives: The students will learn-
  • to introduce themselves elaborately in English
  • Materials: NCTB Textbook lesson 4-6, board, markers.

The teacher enters the classroom and says “good morning” to students. The teacher encourages students to say “good morning” in return.

The teacher then reviews the previous class by selecting a random student and asking them, “Hi! what is your name?” The teacher prompts the student to say. “Hi! my name is…”. The teacher then asks the student, “How are you (student’s name)?” The teacher prompts the student to say, “I am fine. How are you Mr. or Ms (teacher’s name)?” The teacher answers, “I am fine. Thank you.”

Next the teacher draws himself or herself on the board and writes their name, their age, their profession and where they work at in the following manner, “Hello! I am (full name). I’m ___ years old. I’m a teacher. I work at (name of the institution).” The teacher then selects a student randomly and tells them to come in front of the class and then the teacher says, “This is (student’s name). He is _____ years old. He is a student. He is in class 3 at (name of the institution).” Next the teacher prompts the student to repeat the information by himself. The student repeats, “Hello! I am (full name). I’m ___ years old. I’m a student. I’m in class 3 at (name of the institution).”

Next the teacher tells the whole class to draw and write about themselves in the same way the teacher has modelled. The teacher moves from person to person and monitors. The teacher will facilitate wherever needed.

The teacher tells the students to practice introducing themselves elaborately at home, as they will be asked to do so in the next class. The teacher then ends the class by saying “goodbye”.
